What is the JA College Pipeline?
JA College Pipeline is a collaborative effort between JA of Georgia, business volunteers, and the host college’s staff that provides middle and high school students the opportunity to learn about the benefits of post secondary education and what steps students can take to make a college education an attainable goal
What happens during a JA College Pipeline?
Business volunteers and/or college staff will co-facilitate the workshops about the admission process, financing college, and how to prepare for the world of work. Students eat lunch and participate in a campus tour.
How can my students participate in JA College Pipeline?
The first step is to identify a host college, typically the local community college or university. Contact the student services office of the local community college or university to determine if they can host your students. Once initial contact with the college is made, contact your local JA of Georgia office to start the planning process. Please specify which county your school is in when contacting JA of Georgia.
How long is the JA College Pipeline?
JA College Pipeline is a half day event which usually starts at 9:30 a.m., Students are welcomed by the college or university president and then proceed to break out sessions, followed by lunch and a college tour. The day should end by 1:45 p.m.
Do I need to schedule a school bus for this trip?
Yes, schools should follow the same steps they typically follow to schedule a educational field trip.
How can I prepare my students for JA College Pipeline?
Three to five days before the JA College Pipeline students participate in a 45 minute training session. Students will prepare a resume, learn about the college they will be visiting and discuss how to prepare for JA College Pipeline. Contact your local JA of Georgia office for a copy of the student pre-activities.
