The Bulloch County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a new initiative called “Bulloch County Career Days” that will allow JA Careers With a Purpose to be taught in all the county high schools' CTAE departments over a three day period.

“We wanted to participate in some sort of Career Days at the high school level,” notes Dennis Key, chair of the chamber’s education committee. “The JA Careers with a Purpose program provided relevant materials to help area business persons facilitate a successful outreach into those schools.”

The Career Days will take place over the course of three days, rotating a new volunteer from the business community through the CTAE classes every 40 minutes, with each volunteer teaching a new lesson, and allowing the students maximum exposure to different career fields. Volunteers come from various backgrounds, from banking to culinary arts, bringing a wide range of experiences for the students to draw from.

The Career Day program started at Southeast Bulloch High School in April 2010, providing JA Careers With a Purpose to almost 400 students. With the addition of Statesboro High and Portal High this year, that number should reach almost 1,000.
“That is 1,000 of our students becoming more aware of the opportunities that await them in our community,” notes Abbie Lasinski, CTAE director of Bulloch County Schools. “We are pleased to reap the benefits of this partnership with JA and the Statesboro Chamber of Commerce.”
