Julie Olsen has been a JA volunteer for over six years and has taught various classes which have directly impacted over 500 students. In addition, she has served as a coordinator at Memorial Health, recruiting and helping train multiple volunteers who have remained dedicated to the JA programs over the years. The successful retention rate of volunteers from this organization is due in large part to Olsen's commitment and passion for the JA programs.

Olsen is unique in that she has continued to help teach classes at May Howard Elementary, one of the nicer elementary schools, but she has also embraced the need at Thunderbolt Elementary, a Title One school, and has worked to fill classes there as well. While it would have been easy for her to continue working only with May Howard, she recognized the need and accepted the challenge of Thunderbolt and has successfully orchestrated programs there for a number of years.

Because of some recent setbacks, Memorial has unfortunately scaled back their efforts in community involvement overall. Olsen, however, continues to advocate for Junior Achievement programs and volunteers from the organization. Because of her commitment and drive, we continue to reach students at both elementary schools, allowing us to inspire and prepare students to succeed in a global economy.

JA of Georgia's Savannah District office is pleased to announce Julie Olsen as its Volunteer of the Year.
