Recent News: 2009 Augusta District Volunteer of the Year, Bill Graves, Area Manager of Network Services for AT&T, once again demonstrated why he received this award. In FY10, Graves coordinated two golf tournaments which raised an incredible $30,640.00 to benefit local programs.
Five years ago, Graves, a newly inducted JA board member, suggested putting together a little golf tournament to raise money for JA. Since that time, Graves’s “little” tournaments have raised a combined total of $157,267 and are now a mainstay of local fund raising efforts.
AT&T’s efforts, led by Graves, combined with support from Coca-Cola, Papa John’s, Georgia Power, Publix Super Markets, Club Car, Inc., and the Knox Foundation have placed the Junior Achievement golf tournaments at the forefront of events supported by the local community.
Bill Graves JA Bio:
Bill Graves has grown an already good relationship between JA of Georgia’s Augusta District and the local AT&T operation into a great, robust partnership. He coordinates both AT&T’s volunteer and fundraising involvement. Graves is a very humble, but hard-working member of the Augusta Board of Directors. He has been an incredibly reliable supporter of JA. He is always in the background doing those things no one else wants to do, and always lifts his people up, making them proud of their efforts.
Each year, he coordinates two or more JA Job Shadow events, impacting 60 students, at AT&T’s Augusta facilities. He has revitalized the relationship between JA and the Telephone Pioneers, and other JA district offices have benefitted from Graves personal involvement and encouragement as well. His extensive travel schedule limits the time he can spend in the classroom, but his biggest gift to JA has been his incredible fund raising efforts. Thanks to Graves and his AT & T team, over $126,627 has been raised since the spring of 2005 for local operations.
